Elizabeth Symondson (nee Melvin) graduated from the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing in 1915.
Nursed Georges P. Vanier and they corresponded for a great many years. Vanier lost a leg during that attacks at Cherisy, France in 1918 and his Battalion the "Van Doos" was decimated. He went on to become Governor General of Canada and his son is the founder of L'Arche.
