Sir John Donald Horsfall, 2nd Bt. was born on 1 June 1891. He is the son of Sir John Cousin Horsfall, 1st Bt. and Sarah Emily Fawcett. He married, firstly, Henrietta Musgrave, daughter of William Musgrave, on 28 October 1914. He married, secondly, Gladys Broster, daughter of Robert Buck Broster, on 24 August 1953. He died in 1975.
Sir John Donald Horsfall, 2nd Bt. usually went by his middle name of Donald. He was educated at Uppingham School, Uppingham, Leicestershire, England. He was Captain, 6th Battalion, West Riding Regiment. He succeeded to the title of 2nd Baronet Horsfall, of Hayfield, Glusburn, co. Yorks (U.K., 1909) on 18 October 1920. He was chairman of John C. Horsfall & Sons, worsted spinners. He held the office of High Sheriff of the West Riding, Yorkshire in 1927. He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for the West Riding, Yorkshire in 1928.
