Tom Simmonds was raised on the family farm at Keatley. He earned his Diploma of Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan in 1948. Afterwards he moved to Regina and worked for Prairie Hatchery. Later he moved to Saskatoon running his own business selling and installing milking machines. After he took on a job with Federated Coop Feed Mill. He moved to Grenfell in 1964 to take on a job as a Public Relations Officer with Federated Coop. He earned his Business Certificate at the University of Sask. in 1964. In 1966 the family moved to Yorkton when he took a position as District Representative for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. He remained with the Pool for about 30 years until retirement. He was located at Rosetown, Prince Albert and finally in Regina. A few years after retirement he moved to Campbell River, British Columbia. His last move was to New Westminster B.C.

Tom was very active for 35 years with the Boy Scouts. He was the Commissioner for Saskatchewan Boy Scouts. He coached hockey and softball when his children were young. In Prince Albert he owned an Acreage called Saddlebrook Stables where he owned and boarded horses. He trained horses with one of his daughters and hobby farmed. He was active in the Anglican Church, at one time being the Sunday School Superintendent for St Timothy’s in Saskatoon.

SIMMONDS, Thomas Keelinge Late of Kiwanis Care Centre, New Westminster, B.C., passed away peacefully at the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster on December 7, 2005, age 77. Tom was born in Hafford, Saskatchewan on March 7, 1928. He was the youngest of 4 children born to Percy and Margaret (nee: Deakin) Simmonds. Tom was raised on the family farm near Keatley, Saskatchewan. He had a long and successful career with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. He was active in the scouting movement in many capacities including being the Saskatchewan Provincial Commissioner. He was also known for his involvement in the Anglican Church, coaching minor sports, western and equestrian riding. Tom retired in Campbell River, B.C. before moving to New Westminster. Predeceased by his sister Pat Porter and brother John. Survived by his loving family; brother Robert, son Thomas Kimbal (Debbie) from Wakaw, Sask., granddaughter Barbara and great granddaughter Natasha from Strathmore, AB, granddaughter Kristin (Darren), and great grandson Brandin from Saskatoon, Sask., grand daughter Tara (Ron) Gaudet, great granddaughter Hilary, and great grandson Nicolas, from Bellevue, Saskatchewan, grandson Thomas (Teresa) from Dinsmore, Sask., son Darrell (Cathy), granddaughter Amy, and grandson Brennan from Campbell River, BC, daughter Shirley (Winston) Toudy from New Westminster, BC, daughter Linda (Gordon) Rempel from Sherwood Park, AB, grandson Chad and granddaughter Andrea from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, daughter Averil and granddaughter Kendra from Regina, Sask. A celebration of his life was held on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 at St. Mary the Virgin Anglican Church, 121 E. Columbia St., New Westminster, BC. His ashes will be inurned at St. Mary's Anglican Church near the family homestead at Keatley, Saskatchewan.

Birth certificate Swan River, Manitoba. Her parents were living in Hudson’s Bay Junction or Hudson Bay Junction area at the time. Since there was either no doctor in Hudson Bay Junction at the time or the doctor was not accepting new patients, her mother went to Swan River to have the services of a doctor. This was at the suggestion of others. Bertha Ogden was in Swan River for about a month. Gloria’s birth certificate says she was born at Mrs. Jolly’s Nursing Home Block 26, lot 2, Swan River.

The move to the town of Hudson Bay Junction is described as follows. During WWII while Arthur Ogden was serving in the Army in Europe. His wife Bertha was teaching at a one room school and daughter Gloria attended this school. There had recently been bear attacks in the area. The school inspector moved them to Hudson Bay Junction School as he was concerned for their safety. [If they were living on the land that Arthur had received under the Soldier Grant they would have been living 1/2 mile from the northern forest. If this is the case, then contact with bears would not be surprising]

SIMMONDS, Dorothy Gloria (nee: Ogden) Late of New Horizons, Campbell River, B.C., passed away peacefully at the Campbell And District General Hospital on April 23, 2011, age 78. Gloria was born in Swan River, Man. on September 5, 1932. She was the only child of Arthur and Bertha (nee: Curtis) Ogden. Gloria was raised in the Hudson Bay, Sask. area and in Regina, Sask. She attended the Qu’appelle Diocesan School and Reliance School of Business, both in Regina. She was a secretary for the Manufacturers Life Assoc. until she married Tom Simmonds in 1951. She was a devoted mother to her five children. Gloria and her family lived in Regina, Saskatoon, Grenfell, Yorkton, Rosetown, Prince Albert, all in Sask. After her children were grown she worked for Home Care and Nursing Homes in Prince Albert and Regina. She enjoyed visits with her grandchildren, raising horses, dancing and travel. Gloria and Tom retired in Campbell River, B.C., before she moved to Parksville, BC. Predeceased by her parents and former husband Tom.
