This Memorial overlooks the River Thames on Cooper's Hill at Englefield Green between Windsor and Egham on the A308, 4 miles from Windsor.

Flying Officer. Born 12th October, 1917, at Franklin, Man. Educated at Franklin and at St. Michael's School, Victoria, B.C. Entered the service of the Bank 1st August, 1935. Served at branches in Manitoba and British Columbia. Enlisted 8th February, 1941. from Powell River, B.C., in R.C.A.F. Flight Sergeant 28th October, 1942; Warrant Officer 5th March, 1943; Pilot Officer 1st November, 1943; Flying Officer 18th January, 1944. Trained at Dafoe, Sask. Overseas in December, 1941. Attached R.A.F. Stationed in Northern Scotland and the Shetland Isles on anti-submarine duty. Posted to Gibraltar 9th November, 1942; Blida (Algeria) 16th December, 1942; Cairo 14th January, 1943; and Algiers 20th June, 1943. Convoy duty in North Africa. Returned to United Kingdom 12th January, 1944. Took Radar course in Northern Ireland. Missing over North Sea 13th November, 1944, while flying with Coastal Command. Officially presumed dead (2nd October, 1945). From a memorial booklet prepared by the Canadian Bank of Commerce.

#407 Demon Squadron.
Wellington NC 627 of Loran Training Unit RAF Mullaghmore, near Ballymoney, County Antrim, North Ireland, took off at 0021 hours on 13 November 1944 on a Loran training exercise. The route was Mullaghmore  and return by reciprocal track. After take off nothing further was heard from the aircraft.  An aircraft day & night search was carried out with nil result. It was assumed aircraft and crew were lost at sea. 
He also saw service in Britain, Gibraltar, Algiers and North Africa.
Flying Officer Navigator Deakin has no known grave, his name is inscribed on Panel 245 , Runnymede War Memorial, Englefield Green, Egham, Surrey, England. Prior to his entering service, he was employed by The Canadian Bank of Commerce in Carmen Manitoba and later transferred to the Powell River Branch.         
Deakin Lake in Manitoba is named in his memory.      
He was born on October 12, 1917 in Franklin Manitoba, Canada and was the son of Guy Barton Deakin and Janey Deakin, of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
