Maureen Elizabeth COOPER
Obituary
COOPER, Maureen Elizabeth (nee Gray) Passed away peacefully at Saanich Peninsula Hospital (PCU) on 5 July 2012. Born in Georgetown, British Guyana on 12 July 1939, she was a fifth generation British Guyanese. As a young lady, she moved to Barbados, then Halifax, Nova Scotia where she met and married the love of her life, David R.E. Cooper, whom she supported as a naval wife making homes in Halifax, Victoria, Toronto, Ottawa and England. Maureen was loving and beloved mother and grandmother. She taught Sunday School, lead Beavers, and was a valued parent volunteer at her children's schools; as well, an active supporter of many charities, a member of various ladies social groups, church committees and the altar guild. She was an accomplished artist and seamstress, who also enjoyed needlework and crafts. As a cherished friend and mentor to many, always keeping in touch across time and miles, Maureen touched the lives of many. She was predeceased by her parents Charles and Mavis Gray of Georgetown, BG and is survived by her husband, David, son Philip, daughter Gillian (Marc-André Beaucher), grandsons André and Oliver Beaucher, brother Michael Gray (Helen), nieces and cousins. A service of Remembrance of Eternal Life will be held at St Mary's Church, Saanichton Wednesday 11 July 2012 at 2pm with interment following at St Stephen's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, we welcome donations to the Victoria Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation, 1510 Fort Street, Victoria or the Canadian Cancer Society.
