Obituary
ADAMS, Clifford HUGH Peerless, Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather- August 19, 1926-September 2, 2011Hugh, late of Prince Albert, SK, beloved husband of Linda (Jensen), passed away on September 2, 2011 following a long battle with complications from surgery in January. He was born on August 19, 1926 at Brooksby, SK, the third son of Frederic and May Adams. In May 1928 the Adams family moved to Prince Albert, SK where Frederic had purchased a tobacco store in the Strand Theatre, then later purchased Parrots Book Store, renaming it Adams Book Store. Hugh’s school years were spent at Central School and P.A.C.I. Although not one for the academic side of school, he excelled at track and field, earning many red ribbons for his accomplishments. In 1943 with our country involved in World War II, as did many young men, Hugh entered military training at Maple Creek, SK. With the end of the war in 1945, he did not see active duty overseas and chose to leave the army. He returned to Prince Albert to work at Bowman Bros, but always spoke fondly of his time in the military where he had formed many lasting friendships. With his father’s retirement, Hugh left his former employment to purchase Adams Book Store which he operated until his own retirement in 1988, passing on the reins to his son, Ron. Hugh was a Boy Scout Leader, avid motorcyclist, hobby airplane builder and photography buff. He loved his years with the Kinsmen Club and K-40 Club, P.A. Glider Club, the Captones Barbershop Singing Group and the P.A. Legion, where he formed wonderful, lasting associations. Hugh enjoyed retirement, especially his twice daily excursions to the P.A. Coop and the Salvation Army, to meet, discuss and solve world problems with all his coffee group friends! Who can forget the famous “quarter game”. With the approach of autumn, the cooler nights and shorter days, wanderlust would always enter Hugh’s soul and he would inevitably remark, “come on, let’s go somewhere”. It seems fitting somehow that he chose to leave us in this season to embark on his final journey alone. Although our hearts are breaking, we know you are finally at peace and free from pain.  Hugh is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife and soul-mate, Linda; daughter, Donna; his son Ron (Lana); step-son, Garnet; grandchildren Ashley Adams and Ian Adams. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Lionel (Helen) of Kamloops, B.C; Linda’s brothers, sisters and spouses – Joyce (Gary) Williams, Killam, AB; Evelyn (Sardara) Bains, Victoria, B.C.; Garry (Luela) Jensen, Saskatoon, SK; Joan (Allan) Ross, Toronto, ON, and Barry Jensen, Prince Albert, SK. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, George Simpson, Calgary, AB; Julie Mearns, Peachland, B.C, Howard McEwen, Calgary, AB; Jean (Bizz) Gilbert, Stettler, AB.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Hugh was predeceased by his parents, Frederic and May Adams; his wife’s parents, Viggo and Signe Jensen; his brother and sister-in-law Stan Adams and Hilda Adams; brother-in-law Harald Jensen; brothers and sisters-in-law Jack and Merle Simpson, Lil Simpson, Dick Simpson, Muriel McEwen and his children’s mother, Grace. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Prince Albert SPCA, 670- 10th St E, Prince Albert, the Palliative Care Unit of the Victoria Hospital, Box 1711, Prince Albert, S6V 5T3, or a charity of donor’s choice. A Funeral Service will be held Friday, September 9, 2011, at 11:00 am at Northern Funeral Service, MacKenzie Chapel, Prince Albert, with Pastor Dennis Serfas officiating. Arrangements in care of Northern Funeral Service, MacKenzie Chapel. Brian and Bev Stobbs, Funeral Directors. 306.763.8488 www.northernfuneralservice.ca
