Whereas the Commissioner acting in the prosecution of the Fiat in Bankruptcy awarded and issued forth against Edward Buckton Lamb, of Number 10, Burton-crescent, in the Parish of St Pancras, in the county of Middlesex, Builder, Dealer and Chapman, hath certified to the Judge of the Court of Review in Bankruptcy, that the said Edward Buckton Lamb hath in all things confirmed himself according to the directions of the Acts of Parliament made now in force concerning bankrupts; this is to give notice, that, by virtue of an Act, passed in the fifth and sixth year of the reign of Her present Majesty Queen Victoria, instituted “An Act for the amendment of the law in bankruptcy,” the certificate of the said Edward Buckton Lamb will be allowed and confirmed by the Court of Review in Bankruptcy, unless cause be shewn to the said Court to the contrary, on or before the 25th day of October 1844.

Edward Buckton Lamb was born in May 1805 (British Architectural Library) or 1806 (Grove), the son of James Lamb, a government official and amateur artist. He was articled to Lewis Nockalls Cottingham and published 'Etchings of Gothic Ornament' in 1830. In the early 1830s he was draughtsman to John Claudius Loudon, for whom he produced many of the designs in the 'Encyclopaedia of Cottage, Farm and Villa Architecture and Furniture'. On 3 April 1837 he was admitted FRIBA, his proposers being James Noble, Thomas Leverton Donaldon, Charles Fowler and Ambrose Poynter, but in 1844 he resigned his fellowship, probably for financial reasons as at that date his few commissions for actual building had been designs for overseas.
In 1846 he published 'Studies of Ancient Domestic Architecture' with a text written by William Henry Leeds, but it was not until 1850 that his practice became prosperous, mainly for country house additions and alterations, notably Hughenden Manor for Benjamin Disraeli and for churched distinguished by a wilful Gothic detail and centralised plans. He was readmitted Fellow on 23 January 1860 and set his ideas in lectures, published in the Building News in June 1860 and July 1861.
Lamb died in London on 30 August 1869, bankrupted by the building of the Plaisance (now Fawkham Manor), which he was forced to sell in 1868. The practice was continued by his son Edward Beckitt Lamb, born in 1857.
