On 6 January 1781 Thomas [II] Burne was articled for three years as a clerk to Richard Mee Esq., Gentleman (1743–87), an attorney of Himley, Staffordshire, a few miles south of Penn, and in 1787 he married Maria Mee (c.1768–1809), the only daughter of Richard and Patience Mee (née Homer) (1741–1805) (m. 1766).
