Benjamin Jonas was born in Timaru, New Zealand, 27 December 1875, to Moss Jonas and Emma, nee Symondson. In 1915 aged 40, he enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) at Liverpool [NSW]. His postal address, however, was 10 West Avenue, Darlinghurst and he gave his religion as Jewish. He died in Sydney in 1948.
