Regimental Number 5304 Montague Henry Faulkner, 13th London Regiment, Private, theatre of war 1(a) [I believe that is France] from August 20, 1916 to October 21, 1916, remarks D/W [I presume it means died of wounds] October 21, 1916.
The research of Ronald Leech, a relative, found that the 13th London Battalion participated in the Battle of Transloy Ridges from October 11 to October 19, 1916. Thus he was probably wounded in this action and later died of his wounds.

Dear old Curzon
You have no doubt heard by now that
I have landed in France after a seasick journey and
have reached the above address. I thought owing to
certain rumours which were flying around that I should
be kept in England for a little while longer but as
you can guess it evidently was not to be.
Well old dear I am going along fairly well “and there’s
no need to worry at all” (???)
You see the conditions of war especially now are made
so easy that we suffer comparatively nothing. Well
Blanche how are the young bounders Kelly and Doris,
still keeping well I trust, and have you heard anything
further from Frank. I am not allowed to write much so
I find it very difficult to put together anything
like a letter but I know how you’ll forgive me this
won’t you Mrs Jeal so I say ta-ta for the present
Wishing you the best of luck
I Remain
Your Affectionate Brother

Glossary
“Dear old Curzon” was Montague’s sister Blanche Katherine Curzon FAULKNER
The “young bounders” were Ruth (referred to by her nick-name KELLY) and her younger sister Sylvia (called DORIS)
Frank is Frank Upton-Jeal husband of Blanche and father to Ruth and Sylvia and later to Elsie. Frank Jeal was a regular soldier serving with the 1st Life Guards.
The letter you see above has only just been discovered by me amongst letters I am still studying that were written by my grandfather. Myself, my wife and my sister Christine along with her husband visited Montague’s grave at St Sever Cemetery in ROUEN, FRANCE on 21st October 2016 exactly 100 years to the day that 5304 Private Montague Faulkner died.
