Notes for William CHARLTON
From Bob Hogg
Farmer William Charlton from Northumberland and Elizabeth (maiden name unknown, but possibly McDonald) from Dumfries, Scotland, came to Speke in the middle of the 19th century to run Woodend Farm on the Speke Hall Estate, which was then still in the private ownership of Adelaide Watt. William Charlton died in 1884 at the age of 53 and his widow Elizabeth moved her family to Mount Pleasant Farm, also on the Speke Hall Estate. It was from there in 1888 that her daughter Elizabeth married Edwin Tunnicliffe.
My great aunt Mary Lunt worked as cook domestic for Elizabeth Charlton, of Speke and Cressington Park, Liverpool, for over two decades.
There is an excellent web site - speke archives on line - which has information on the Charlton family and the area itself.
