Deaths in the Services
Fleet Surgeon ALEXANDER RICHARD JOYCE, R.N.(ret.), died at Henley-on-Thames on January 23, aged 91. He took the L.R.C.P.l. and L.M. and L.R.C.S.I. in 1870 and, entering the Royal Navy soon afterwards, became fleet surgeon on October 27, 1891. He served in the Egyptian War of 1882 as surgeon of H.M.S. Superb, when he was present at the bombardment of Alexandria and landed in medical charge of a force at Ramleh Heights. He was severely wounded in the Alexandria riots. He received the Egyptian medal with clasp and the Khedive's bronze star.
