Eccleshall
Death of Mr. W. A. Yates - The death took place on Sunday of Mr. William Addison Yates, of Ashcroft. Mr. Yates who was 72 years of Age, was a native of Eccleshall, being a son of the late Mr. Samuel Yates, wine and spirit merchant, High Street. Except for a few years’ residence in Canada, Mr. Yates spent the whole of his life in the town and district. He served as a member of the Parish Council for 33 years. He was a Churchman, and occupied the position of warden at the Parish Church for many years, and also a member of the Church Council. Much of his time was spent in the interests of the Bishop Ryder Lodge of Oddfellows, which he joined 50 years ago. He was for a time the treasurer of the lodge, and on relinquishing that position, he was appointed a trustee, which office he held up to the time of his death.. He leaves a widow and one son.
