Charles Russell Deakin Garmeson was born  05 Jun 1896 in San Francisco, California. He was the sixth child of John Deakin and Emily Maud Garmeson. In the 1900 Federal Census Record, he was referred to as Russell, and was 3 years old at that time. He lived with his parents at 3526 21st Street, San Francisco.

There are no records of Charles Russell until the 1910 Federal Census Record. Russell was listed as being 13 years old and was attending school. He lived with his family at 55 Alpine Street, San Francisco. When his father died 31 July 1911, Russell was 15 years old. When his mother died on 10 Jan 1917, Russell was 21 years old. He was living with his oldest sister, Beatrice at that time.

In April of 1917, Charles Russell had to file an application for the Draft prior to World War I. He was listed as living at 1914 Lyon Street, San Francisco. His stated his occupation was a  tire repairer for the Auston Kanzer Co. located on 141 Grove Street, San Francisco. He was 21 years old, single, and described as being tall, having medium build, blue eyes and brown hair. He listed an injury to both ankles from an accident and poor eyesight as exemptions for service. In 1920 Russell was noted to be single, and living with his siblings at 838 Broderick Street, San Francisco. He was working as a machinist for an iron works factory.

The 1930 Federal Census Record showed Russell now residing with his brother Bertram and his wife Mabel at 349a 27th Avenue, San Francisco. His brother George was living there as well. Russell was listed as being unemployed at that time. The California Voters Registration listed Russell’s party preference to be Democrat.

No Federal Census Record could be found for Charles Russell Deakin Garmeson in 1940, but there was a World War II Draft Application filed on  27 Apr 1942. He gave his name as Russell Deakin Garmeson, dropping his given first name of Charles. He gave his address as 1467 8th Avenue, San Francisco, and listed his brother Bertram as his next of kin. He was described as being 6 feet tall, weighed 200 pounds, had a ruddy complexion, blue eyes and brown hair. It was also noted that he had multiple scars on his face, wrists and hands.
 
A 1945 San Francisco Directory record listed Russell as living at 480 30th Street, San Francisco. He was employed as a machinist at the WEH Company. There are no further records found between 1945 and the time of Russell’s death in 1972. Russell never married. He died on 04 Jul 1972 [1978?] at the age of 82, from acute gastrointestinal bleeding. It was also noted that he had a cerebral-vascular accident in the past.  His sister Violet was his only living relative. He was cremated and buried at the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Colma, San Mateo, California.
