Nicholas Fitzmaurice was awarded the CIE, Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire, due to his 'Special Services' - (spying) during 'The Great Game', when Britain, Russia, China were all interested in India.
And
Nicholas was a British diplomat and became Consul General in Peking. He was captured by the Japanese at the fall of Singapore and held captive for some years. He was also a British spy.
