Went on Crusade to the Holy Land in 1183 to fulfill Henry the Young King’s vow.
Stephen Langton eulogized him as the “best knight that ever lived”
William was one of the few earls who remained Loyal to King John throught the First Barons War. He was one of the counsellors who recommended King John accept the terms of the Magna Carta.
Invested into the order of the Knights Templar on his deathbed.
All of his sons died childless.
