A favourite official of Thomas, 2nd Earl of Lancaster.
In 1313 pardoned for his role in the death of Piers Gaveston.
In 1315 Sir Adam Banastre and others led a campaign of violence against him.
In 1322 ordered to join King Edward II to defend against Lancaster’s rebeleelion, but switched sides at the Battle of Boroughbride. Upon defeat was imprisoned and his lands seized, later he escaped.
After Queen Isabella and Roger Mortimer overthrew Edward II, he was pardoned and lands restored.
Was killed by enemies of the Banastre Rebellion in a wood near Henley-on-Thames.
