Elizabeth the Cuman’s father was a Zayan or Seyhan assumed to have been Koten, a Cuman-Kipchak chieftain.
Khan Koten allied with the Rus, fought against the Mongols at the Battle of Kalka River May 31, 1223. The Rus suffered a costly defeat.
Given asylum by King Bela IV of Hungary. Baptized in 1239 as Jonas. Was assassinated prior to a Mongol invasion by Hungarian nobles.
