Notes for Mabel De Belleme
Also known as Mabel Talvas.
Of all Orderic Vitalis’ female subjects Mabel was the most cunning and treacherous. He describes her as "small, very talkative, ready enough to do evil, shrewd and jocular, extremely cruel and daring."
Murdered by Hugh Bunel who cut off her head while she was in bed.
Notes for Roger Of Montgomery (Spouse 1)
One of William the Conquerer’s principal counsellors. He may not have participated in the invasion of England as he stayed behind in Normandy as co-regent with William’s wife Matilda of Flanders. [Other sources say he commanded the Norman right flank at Hastings.]He contributed 60 ships to the invasion force. He joined William in 1067 and was rewarded with the earldom of Shropshire.
