Participated in the First Crusade of 1096, along with his brothers Godfrey of Bouillon and Baldwin I of , both of whom became rulers of Jerusalem.
Participated in the Seige of Nicea in 1097
Defeated an enemy ambush at the Siege of Antioch in 1098
Gained notoriety during the Siege of Jerusalem.
Commanded a division of the crusader army in the Battle of Ascalon.
After his brothers had died he was offered the kingdom of Jeruralem. He travelled to Apulia before learning a distance relative had been crowned instead. He returned to Boulogne.
