Notes for Henry Of Essex
Anglo-Norman nobleman
Sheriff of Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire from 1156 to 1159
As a constable one of his duties was to hold the royal standard to indicate the king’s position. In a military engagement. In a Welsh ambush in 1157 he dropped the standard, which seemed to signal the king’s death. In a royal court in 1163 he was accused of treason for that act by a claimant to Haughley.

Held the honours of Rayleigh (by inheritance) and Haughley by right of his second wife Alice.
Notes for Cecily (Spouse 1)
Cecily, daughter of Roger de Valognes was Henry’s first wife and most likely mother of Agnes.
Agnes, probably daughter of and heiress of Robert de Vere was Henry’s second wife, but also possibly mother of Agnes
