Fought at the Battle of Fornham, October 1173, on the side of the rebels. Both he and his wife Petronilla were taken prisoner after the defeat. He reained in captivity until 1177, she was released earlier.

Went on Crusade in 1190 to Palestine, but died at Dyrrachium, now Durres, on his return.
