Originally a servant of Chilperic’s first wife Audovera. She won Chilperic’s affection and persuaded him to divorce his wife. After Chilperic put Fredugund aside to marry Galswintha, Fredugund strangled Galswintha. Chilperic then married Fredegund and she became queen.
She is said to have ordered assassinations of several others.
Amazingly she died of natural causes.
