Was in opposition to King Edward II and Piers Gaveston
While Gaveston was in exile and surrendered to the Earl of Pembroke, Guy forcibly carried Gaveston away to Warwick castle. Gaveston was tried and executed there.
There were rumours that Edward II had Guy poisoned.
Considered a man of considerable learning and wisdom.
