[Rookhope and Stanhope are about 3 miles apart.]

In the July to September 1899 death index Ann Lowes, died age 83, Lanchester district, Durham, volume 10a, page 219.

There is a good possibility Ann’s last name is Patterson.
1. a John Lowes married Ann Patterson on June 1 1839 at Whittonstall, Northumberland. The John Lowes in question was born in Whittonstall. Whittonstall is about 12 miles from Rookhope and Stanhope.
2. John and Ann Lowes grandson Charles Patterson Lowe would have Ann’s maiden name as a middle name. There would be no reason to have Patterson as a middle name unless there is a Patterson in the family.
3. There is an Ann Patterson baptised September 19 1816, Stanhope, Durham, parents Stephen and Mary Patterson
