Doris Dimmock (nee Webster) b 11/10/1908 South Africa d 9/5/1998 Norfolk England married Arthur Cecil Dimmock (Dick) 26/8/1933 Luton
Doris was the 6th child and 3rd daughter of Edith Louisa (nee Hainworth) and Richard Arthur Webster.  She was born 07:20am Sunday 11th October 1908 in Human Street, Krugersdorp, Transval South Africa.  When Doris was a young child the family moved from South Africa to England.  They lived in Kenilworth House (now a retirement home) Loftus Yorkshire with Richard Henry Webster, her grandfather for a time, also living in Bilston Staffordshire after living in Luton for some years.  All I know of her childhood is that she would talk to her daughter Anne about Bilston and of Carterton in Oxford where she played tennis as a young girl with friends/cousins.  Doris had a few jobs before marrying; one of which was looking after a little blonde girl whom she named her eldest daughter Anne after.  One position she held was in London working for Myra Hess (the famous concert pianist) probably as a companion to her.  In 1932 Doris was staying with her brother Donald at Steppingley Road, Flitwick Bedfordshire when she saw an advert in the newspaper from a widower Arthur Dimmock who needed a housekeeper for himself and his two sons Jim and Trev.  Doris’s love story starts when she replied to Arthur’s advert and from the 15 replies he received Arthur visited Doris in her brothers home on 29th March 1932.  He found her to be wise, quiet but determined, definitely with a mind of her own and was going to be no ones fool.  Doris took a good hard look at this young man who fairly presented his credentials and yes, she must have liked what she saw as she accepted the position of housekeeper.  Doris moved to Toddington road, Luton to keep house and care for Arthur’s two sons, who soon became happy in their home life again and cared for Doris very much.  Before the first year was over the grateful Arthur and his competent housekeeper had fallen in love with each other and on August 26th 1933 they were wed in Biscot church, Limbury Luton.  Doris and Dick had 4 children Anne, Rosemary, James and Wendy.  After 42 happy years living in ‘The Haven’ Toddington Road Luton with their children all having left home to set up their own homes, Doris and Dick moved to a bungalow named ‘The Little Haven’ in Gamlingay.  On Sunday 28th August 1983 a large party was held in their daughter Anne’s garden in Hitchin Hertfordshire to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, it was a ‘golden’ day celebrated in style with every available member of family and friends.  After a couple more years in Gamlingay Dorrie and Dick moved to Worcester Park in London to live in their own little ‘Granny flat’ which was part of Wendy and Martin’s home, but this was not to be their final home, they then moved to a residential home in Overstrand Norfolk where their daughter Anne lived.  After Dick died in 1992 at a grand old age of 96 life was not the same for ‘my Dorrie’ she had been caring for ‘my Dick’ for 59 years.  She moved to a new residential home and made many friends with the staff and other residents but must have missed Dick terribly.  Doris suffered a stroke and went to be with Dick on 9th May 1998.
