[On December 29 1942 the SS Empire Shackleton had torpedos from U-435 and U-123 fired at her. She was hit by a torpedo from U-123. At 05:00 he wreck was sunk by gunfire from U-435. HMS Fidelity (D-57) picked up survivers later that day, including Godfrey. The next day HMS Fidelity was sunk by U-435 and Godfrey did not survive.]
