Notes for Gwenllian Ferch Gruffydd
Her army was routed by the Normans in a battle near Kidwelly Castle. She was captured and beheaded. One of her son’s Morgan was killed in battle and another son, Maelgwyn was captured and executed. This is the only known example of a medieval woman leading a Welsh army into battle and she has been compared to Celtic leader Boadicea.
Notes for Gruffydd Ap Rhys (Spouse 1)
After coming to terms with King Henry I he was allowed to rule a portion of his father’s kingdom 1116 to 1137
