William and Mary married in Marylebone when he was 42 and Mary (of this parish) was 29
Information provided by Diana Evans, of the Chipping Campden History Society, who currently (2019) lives in The Gables.
In 1823 he bought 'The Gables' in Chipping Campden High Street for 3231 pounds, and lived there. That same year he sold 'Tom's' Quarry on Lapstone Farm to William and Thomas Freeman of Campden, and then Lapstone Farm itself for a further 1500 pounds to William Holmes of Westington, who built the farmhouse.
In 1824 he inherited Hidcote land and property from his brother Robert.
In 1829 he mortgaged The Gables for 3150 pounds at 5% pa.
He was elected Bailiff in 1817, 1824 and 1830; He was a churchwarden in 1824, 1825 and 1826; he was a trustee of the Grammar School in 1829.
William sold The Gables in 1833 for 3180 pounds (making a loss). He died in 1834 and was was buried in Chipping Campden, leaving Mary aged 46 with Charles aged 6 and William aged 4.
Mary subsequently moved to Bretforton with her sons and in the 1841 census is recorded at the Victoria Arms as an innkeeper. Mary re-married in 1851 and died in 1858
