Wharton Sands Laid to Rest at Elmwood
Wharton Sands, 46 of 57 Martin ave, Elmwood, for 29 years and employe [as spelled] of the central post office, who dropped dead from a heart attack, Wednesday morning at the corner of Hespeler ave and Beatrice st., was buried today in Elmwood cemetery. The funeral was held at 2:30 p.m. from Bardal’s funeral home, Rev. H. Sherstone, rector of St. Stephen’s Anglican church, East Kildonian, officiated.
Mr. Sands, who was born in Bedford [Bradford], England, came to Eastern Canada in 1898. In 1901 he came to Winnipeg, and had been employed at the central post office since. He had been a member of St. Stephen’s church for 17 years.
He is survived by his widow, one daughter - Lillian, four sons - Raymond, Jack, Josh and Victor; and one sister Mrs. H. [should be L.] Lee, Bedford [probably should be Bradford], England
[He came to Canada in 1902 or 3. Not sure if he came to Eastern Canada in 1898 at the age of 14.]
