Edward (Ted) Carson Freeman-Attwood, died on February 24, 2022 and was born on August 20, 1930, in Pakistan [Then in British India.] Ted trained as an accountant in London before moving in 1956 to Austria to work at the UN High Commission for Refugees, aiding Hungarian refugees from the Soviet invasion. There he met his first wife serving soup to refugees, a Viennese baroness, Marie von Cavallar (Marietta). They married in Vienna and moved to Toronto where Ted joined the accounting firm Clarkson Gordon. He subsequently moved to Brascan Ltd. Widely cultured in music, the arts and language, travel brought both a deep experience and a rich vein of conversation which lasted until his final days. He was a prodigious speaker of languages. From 1965 Ted was based in Rio de Janeiro. He became president of Brascan in 1978 and retired in 1980, whereupon he moved to Toronto. After his divorce in 1980 he subsequently became the partner of Geraldine Kuss, and in 2000 married Carol Renison of Toronto, who predeceased him in 2007. Ted is survived by his devoted daughter Samantha, and his step children Russell and Nancy and by his grandchildren, Hunter, Holden, step-grandson Simon and by his nephew Jonathon Freeman-Attwood.
