William Forbes Thomson, 2nd Battalion (92nd Foot) The Gordon Highlanders, eldest son of the late Alexander Thomson, by his wife Isabella, daughter of William Forbes; born Rathen, county Aberdeen, 20 January 1890; educated Whiterashes Public School, Aberdeen; was a Gardener at Brucklay Castle, county Aberdeen; enlisted 2 September 1914: served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from 17 March 1915; was wounded 16 May; returned to France 11 November 1915; again wounded 20 July, 1916, and invalided home: returned to France in August 1917; proceeded to Italy in the following November, and was killed in action on the Piave [River] 5 February 1918. Buried in the Bavaria [Giavara] British Cemetery, near Nervesa [Italy]. His Commanding Officer wrote: “He was a gallant soldier, and one of the most trusted men in my company, and he will be a great loss both to the company and myself, who deeply mourn his loss.” He married at New Deer, county Aberdeen, May 1917,
