Moravian Diaries
Jacob Arney 1728-1784 and his son Henry 1755- 1830. It is thought Jacob Arney arrived in Wachovia, a Moravian village in what is now Forsyth County, North Carolina about 1767, but that is unclear. It is known Jacob Arney was still in York Pennsylvania on 20 March 1761, when a daughter was baptized into the German Reform (Calvinist) church. And his son Henry (age 60 was surely still living with him. And then on June 3 1778, the Moravian Diaries show that Henry Arney was in Wachovia getting his son Jacob (born 18 March 1778) [must be from a second wife] baptized by the Moravians. Henry has married a daughter of the above Moravian Andreas Volk, so that was probably no small influence in seeking out the Moravians for baptism. (However, also of note, the biography of the minister who baptized Henry’s sister in York, Jacob Lischy, had started out as a Moravian and tended to get into controversy for his sermons implying there were no fundamental differences between, Moravians, the Calvinists, and the Lutherans) Again, the “Arney” references in the Moravian Diaries are covered in “Robert Walker and the Moravians”. So, some genealogists think Jacob Arney (and his son Henry) both got to Wachovia in about 1767, but there is no evidence.

Around 1767, Jacob Arney moved his family from York(town), York County, Pennsylvania to the area of Tryon County, North Carolina (which later became Lincoln County, North Carolina). Where in 1772, he officially purchased 200 acres of land, on the South side of the South Fork of the Catawba River.
On December 4th, 1782, Jacob Arney had his Will drawn up, in Lincoln County, North Carolina. His actual Will still exists, and sits at the North Carolina State Archives in Raleigh, North Carolina.
