Gunshot wound: displaced Lower Jaw Oct 21/14 occurred near La Bassee
During bayonet charge he received a bullet wound. The bullet entered the mouth and shattered the lower jaw on the right side, passing through side of face entering rt. shoulder.

His condition: Man is unable to eat solid food and cannot make cut? to Meat? except? with a few inscissors in front. He has lost one stone weight since injury. He has very little feeling however in rt. hand. Otherwise he is in pretty good health.
He had some bone splinters removed from his neck Nov 17, 1914.
He has lost all molars on right side from this injury.
Discharged as permanently unfit.

During WWI Ernest Ogden served in France with the Second Battalion Manchester Regiment. The Battalion was part of the 14th Infantry Brigade, 5th Division, II Corps. During his time in France the Battalion were involved in the retreat following the Battle of Mons (August 23, 1914), and the battles of the Marne (September 6 to 12, 1914), the Aisne (September 13 to 18, 1914), and First Ypres (October 19 to November 22, 1914).
