Notes for Thomas GIBBONS
From Pedigrees of Gibbons of Sedgley, also Keeling of Sedgley etc presented by Rev. W. G. D. Fletcher in 1918 [Courtesy of Yvonne Solomon]
Thomas Gibbons of Ettingshall in the parish of Sedgley, co., Stafford, obtained lands in Sedgley by fine 21 Elizabeth (1599); was party with his son William Gibbons to a fine relating to lands in Tipton or Tybyngton, co. Stafford, 33 Elizabeth (1590-1); was a plaintiff in a Chancery suit 1612, then aged 80 years; bur. at Sedgley 6 May 1618.
Also Thomas Gibbons of Ettingshall, who heads the pedigree, was presumably son of William Gibbons (living 13 April 1542) and grandson of Thomas Gybbons, who held lands in Sedgley of Edward Sutton, Lord Dudley- both named in the Sedgley Court Rolls. William Gibbons in 1542 and Thomas Gibbons in in 1588-9 each paid the Lord a rent of 33 shillings 3 pence for the lands they held in in Sedgley. In 1520 William Gibbons had a lease from Richard Fellow of Morefield in Sedgley. On 29 December 1552 Richard Gybbons of Bryerley quitclaimed to William Gybbons his brother his interest in Hervys tenement in Ettingsall.
