Born Ferozepore, Punjab, India September 29, 1871.

From Calcutta, he had served in the British Army in India.

Went to South Africa during the early 1890’s. Enlisted in the Natal Police September 26, 1898 as trooper No. 2170. Mobilized for war service on October 11, 1899. After 2 years 227 days service with the police he was discharged on January 11, 1901.

Enlisted in the Steinacker’s Horse at PMB(Petermaritzburgh) on January 28, 1901 Trooper Number 1259. Detective, age 29, height 5”8”, grey eyes, light brown hair. Next of kin, Mrs. C Lightening, 42 Tickell Ghat Road, Howrah, Calcutta. [Must be his mother] Served in Swaziland.

Transferred to the SAC [South African Constabulary] as trooper no b/792 in B division on September 27, 1901, discharged on September 26, 1902.

Re-inlisted in the Natal Police at PMB on October 4, 1902 as Sgt. warder no. 2880. He served throughout the Zulu rebellion in 1906 and in 1907 was stationed at Eshowe gaol. He qualified for the QSA [Queen’s South Africa ] medal with clasps, Natal & Transvaal, SA 1901 & SA 1902.

In 1937 he was living in Salisbury, South Rhodesia.
