Obituary
Mildred (Ping) Gatin: Passed away on May 26 [1995] in the Royal Inland Hospital at the age of 93 following a pedestrian-vehicle accident. Born in England on December 31, 1901 Mildred Scatchard’s family came to Chase in 1907 where her father set up a medical practice. Her love of horses, the outdoors and sports made her many friends among the pioneers and Native population. She enjoyed golfing, bowling and curling into her eighties and could always be seen riding her horse in Chase parades. She still bowled at the time of her injury. Her love to walk earned her the nickname “Globetrotter” at the Ponderosa Lodge. Ping was very active in the community and helped organize the ‘Salute to the Sockeye’ and other community events. In 1923 she married Stan Gatin (deceased 1974) and they raised two sons Howard (deceased 1985) and Len. She is survived by her brother Geoff Scatchard of Chase. She is also survived by Howard’s wife Kay and grandchildren Terri Gatin of Vancouver, Allan (Cheryl) Ludington of Barrie, Ontario and great grandchildren Heather C.J. and Carrie Lynn. She is also survived by her son Len (ione) Gatin and grand children, Stan (Patti) Gatin of Kamloops and great grandson Alexander. Granddaughter Pam (Darryl) Ketter of Kamloops and great grandson Stefan. Granddaughter Jill (Wayne) Olsen of Los Cabos, Mexico and great grandchildren Jessica, Peter and Vanessa.
Mildred (Ping) and her stories of pioneer days will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Cremation. A memorial service will be held at the St. Andrews church in Chase at 11:00 a.m. on Sat. June 3rd.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Chase Museum.
