Notes for Theophilus (Spouse 1)
Parish Records St. George, Botolph Lane
Christenings Theophilus son of Stephen and Lydia Hearsey Baptized June 12, 1756

His son James Freedom of the City of London Records state Theophilus Hearsey was admitted to the Glovers Guild in 1777

In the Pallot’s marriage index St Mary Le Bow Lic. 1783 Theophilus Hearsey of St Botolph Billingsgate = Sarah Garlick a minor. [There is another Theophilus Hearsey baptized at St Botolph Billingsgate who was born 2 years the Theophilus above, I think this is not the one in question. According to the book “ The Hearseys: Five Generations of an Anglo-Indian Family” this Theophilus had a brother Andrew and sister Christian Mary. Their father was another Andrew Hearsey, grandfather Theophilus Hearsey, a Cumberland Squire.]

Theophilus Hearsey, glover company, Lower Thames Street
[meaning that Andrew and Theophilus were members of the glovers guild, not necessarily they made or sold gloves, in fact they were probably orange merchants.]

Parish Records St. Botolph, Billingsgate
Burials Theophilus Hearsey, Botolph Lane, August 5, 1824, 68 years. [The entry before is Sarah Hearsey buried June 22, 1824, age 61 years and the entry after is Andrew Hearsey of Botolph Lane, buried August 12, 1824, age 27 years. Could these possibly be his wife and son? Perhaps a disease spread in the home. Since Sarah is mentioned as Theophilus’ wife in the christening of their son Theophilus, the Sarah mentioned is probably his wife.]
