An old identity in the person of Mr. Robert George Fountain passed away Monday. Mr. Fountain was born in Calcutta and was the second son of Mr. John Fountain, attorney-at-law, Bengal, India and grandson of the late Rev. John Fountain and Mr. William Ward who were both associated with Messrs. Carey & marshman, early missionaries to India. Mr. Fountain came to the Colony [New Zealand] in 1854 and entered Government Service before the seat of Govt. was moved to Wellington. He acted as Undersecretary for Justice for many years. He retired from Govt. service in 1898 owing to ill-health and has been an invalid ever since. Mr. Fountain died at his late residence, Fairview Rd., Mt. Eden. He leaves a widow and grown-up family of 3 daughters and seven sons.
