Aunt Dorothy's letter

In a letter written by Dorothy, daughter of Mary Eliza Hainworth, she describes the story of her grandmother, Mary Ann Rosamund Dixie. In it she asserts that Mary Ann Rosamund 'Rose' and her half sister, Charlotte Ann Kiernan, were left orphaned at an early age and sent by a step relation (possibly John Henry Fountain as the Times article states that he took the children into his care) into a poor school or orphanage. It was only once she was 18 that she became aware of her ancestry and that she was entitled to monies under the will of her father, Beaumont Joseph Dixie. After a legal battle she inherited a significant sum of money. Dorothy asserts Franke Hainworth married her for her money and left the civil service to buy a tea plantation in Assam, India. There they had 14 children most of whom were sent to England at the age of 7 to live with their aunts there and recieve an education. Dorothy asserts that Franke sold the tea plantation without her knowledge and ran off to the US. Rose found she was homeless and pregnant with her youngest child after he had left. Edward Grange, a planter at the plantation stepped in and married Mary Eliza Hainworth, Dorothy's mother and the family moved in with him.
Of the other family members she states:
Edith Louise married Richard Arthur Webster, an engineer at the tea plantation and later moved to South Africa, Franke and Jim were apprenticed to a shipping company in India and Alex worked as a teacher in the UK.
Rose continued to live with the Grange's for some years then took a job as a housekeeper with her step-relations (possibly Fountains)
