Notes for Gertrude Of Merania
First wife of Andrew
She was regent during the frequent absence of her husband.
Assassinated by Hungarian magnates led by Peter, son of Tore. Her body was torn to pieces. Her murder went unpunished by her husband due to the political situation. Her son Bela IV took revenge when he became king.
Notes for Andrew II (Spouse 1)
King of Hungary and Croatia from 1205
Conspired against his older brother King Emetic of Hungary. When Emetic was dying he crowned his son Ladislas III King of Hungary. Despite Andrew’s conspiracy Emetic made Andrew regent for Ladislaus’ minority. Andrew ignored the childs interests, so Constance of Aragon fled with her son Ladislaus. When Ladislaus died unexpectedly in Vienna, Andrew became king.

The first to take up the cross in the Fifth Crusade.
