Suggested edit: Haubrich, Bernard John It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our dear husband, father, son, brother and friend surrounded by his family on Friday, January 14, 2011. Bernie was born June 12, 1950 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. As the family expanded, they moved to Kindersley where his father started a plumbing and heating business in 1952. Bernie was big brother to seven sisters and one brother. He attended elementary school in Eston and Kindersley and high school at St. Thomas College and Kindersley Composite School, where he graduated in 1967. Bernie attended the University of Saskatchewan for three years before he decided to feed his wandering soul and head out west. From 1971-1974 he spent his time in Kitimat, Vancouver and Prince George, riding his motorcycle and working, before settling in Jasper, Alberta. During the five years Bernie lived in Jasper he met many special friends, including his future wife Sharon in 1977. During these years, Bernie spent much of his time playing hockey, baseball and enjoying hiking and skiing in the mountains. In 1979, Bernie and Sharon moved back to Saskatchewan where they married and Bernie took over as owner and manager of the family business, KEE Sheet Metal. He took pride in the service the business provided, and felt that all of the staff, especially his long-time partner and mentor Jerry Flanagan, were like a part of his family. Bernie was committed to the community of Kindersley through his volunteering in many local groups, and his dedication to the community will be missed along with his ability to make people laugh and smile. His involvement in the community started with various sports teams and continued with Kinsmen, K-40's, church ministry at St. Joseph's, Town Council and most recently the Water West Pipeline Cooperative. He loved being involved as an actor with the Kindersley Players theatre group, and using his talents in any way he could to add value to his community and those around him. He enjoyed his time as a referee and was known as the 'whistling linesman', and loved the game of golf. Bernie was an adventurer and an explorer, be it scaling mountains in Jasper, walking a few miles out of Kindersley, or travelling across Canada. He was talented, insightful, intelligent and a great confidante and friend. He is remembered by all for his positive attitude, kindness, and generosity, as well as the great strength and perseverance that he demonstrated during the past five years when faced with health challenges. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sharon; children Erika, Chris (Natasha), Katie (Darcy) and Paula; mother, Claire; sisters and brother, Kathy (Bob), Claire, Ed, Carol (Dave), Susan (Bob), Julie (Lesley), Joanne (Keith), and Terry (Mark); father and mother-in-law, Ken and Mona Morrow; brother-in-law, Dave (Lynn); and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his nephew Steven in 1987; father, Walter in 2005; and brother-in-law, Gerry in 2008. The Haubrich family are thankful for the care and support of skilled healthcare providers in Kindersley, Saskatoon and Edmonton, and especially our community, family, and friends in these past five years. A celebration of Bernie's life will begin with prayers on Friday, January 21 at 7:00 p.m. and the funeral on Saturday, January 22 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Parish in Kindersley, SK. The family would like to encourage everyone to support Canadian Blood Services and consider becoming a blood donor, as part of their thanks for the wonderful and dedicated care and resources provided by the staff of Grey Nuns Hospital in Edmonton.
