Married Hugh X of Lusignan, the son of Hugh IX, in 1220. She did so without the permission of the king’s council in England.
Known as a blonde blue eyed beauty whose temper matched King John’s.
After her husband King John died and the coronation of her nine year old son Henry III, she returned to Angouleme to take control of her inheritance.
She had 14 children. 5 of John’s and 9 of Hugh’s.
Was a bitter enemy of Blanche Dowager Queen of France who
1) was involved in trying to make her husband King Louis VIII of France also King of England instead of Isabella’s husband John and later their young son King Henry III of England

There is said to be an unconfirmed plot in 1244 by Isabella to poison Blanche. After the failure of this plot Isabella fled and sought refuge in Fontevraud Abbey
