Born Guillaume de Lusignan. A half brother to King Henry III. Was heavily involved in the Second Barons’ War supporting the King.
Took the name de Valence after his birthplace near Lusignan.
Came to England in with 2 of his brothers at King Henry III’s invitation in 1247.

Joan de Munchensi’s grandfather William the Marshal, was Earl of Pembroke. His sons all became earl in succession but all died childless. Thus William’s inheritance was divided amoung his 4 daughters, His daughter Joan inheritited the castle at Pembroke.Thus William’s gandughter’s husband came to be Earl of Pembroke.
